MEMORIAS DEL BARRIO

This gallery aimed to celebrate the rich culture and history of Segundo Barrio through storytelling and interactive art. Community members were invited to bring personal stories, family photos, and paper artifacts to help create meaningful artistic remembrances of life in Second Ward, Central Park, Magnolia Park, and beyond. This interactive art was exhibited alongside four local artists showing their pieces that represented their own lineage and stories.

In partnership with the Houston History Research Center (HPL) and the Collective of Progressive Ecucators (COPE), items shared in the space were scanned, printed, and archived— ensuring that they become a part of Houstons historical record.

This art exhibition was in collaboration with the Divine Art Coalition. Opening night was debuted at Divine Art Coalition’s fifth Segundo Barrio Block Party, held in the Second Ward of Houston, Texas. This event brings together the community in the East End as well as other Houstonians across the city. Thank you to the Divine Art Coalition for an opportunity to hold space together and thank you to the Houston Public Library for helping us
